VOLUNTEER

Direct Service Programs

Direct service programs allow volunteers to work directly with survivors and their children, focusing on trauma-informed crisis intervention. This type of work is typically more emotionally intense and requires additional application requirements and training.

Indirect Service Programs

Indirect service programs do not involve direct interaction with survivors. Instead, they offer volunteers the chance to engage with community members and donors. These programs provide a less emotionally demanding volunteer experience.

Direct Service Roles

Crisis Line: Our greatest need for volunteers is on our crisis line! Crisis line shifts are available daily from 6 PM to 6 AM, as well as from 6 AM to 6 PM on weekends and holidays. This role involves intake and reporting, safety planning, crisis management, trauma-informed care, and more.

Shelter Advocate: Working at the shelter gives you the opportunity to work with residents and help out with daily needs and special programming.

Childcare: Helping with childcare for our shelter residents allows them the opportunity to do work, attend therapy, and participate in special programming.

Courthouse Advocate: Working in the courthouse offers you an inside look at how legal processes run in victim services. Courthouse advocates answer phones, complete intake and schedule clients, run papers to other offices and courts, and assist staff.

Application Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Complete an application
  • Consent to a background check
  • Sign a confidentiality agreement
  • Complete a 15-hour trauma-informed training program (in-person and online)
  • Consistent access to technology and ability to take calls
  • Commitment of at least 6 months with shifts taken regularly

Training for Direct Service:

We understand that jumping into a volunteer opportunity with little to no experience can be intimidating! That’s why we offer the same caliber of training to our volunteers as we do our staff. Our training program is through SCCADVASA and includes approximately 11 hours of online training and 4 hours of in-person training with our volunteer coordinator.

Indirect Service Roles

Front Office: Working the front office means being the face of Project R.E.S.T. for all visitors! You would be watching the front door camera, answering phones and greeting walk-ins.

Special Events & Community Outreach: We host events that we need help planning and running! We also attend many in the community and need people to work our tables and engage with interested parties.

Education: These volunteers provide education on Project R.E.S.T. and what we do, as well as information on domestic violence, healthy relationships and more.

Fundraising: We are funded by grants and donations so we always need help raising more money to keep our services running!

Maintenance: Assisting with facility maintenance on occasion.

Application Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Complete an application
  • Consent to a background check
  • Sign a confidentiality agreement
  • Complete at least 2 hours of training
  • Consistent access to technology
