Project R.E.S.T. Urges Community to Donate on Giving Tuesday to Support Survivors of Domestic Violence
[Spartanburg, SC – November 7, 2023] Project R.E.S.T., a Spartanburg-based nonprofit organization working to restore, empower, support, and transform those affected by domestic and sexual violence, is urging the community to donate on Giving Tuesday, November 28th, 2023.
Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, organizations, and communities to create an extraordinary day of generosity and giving. On this day, people from all walks of life come together to support causes they care about and make a difference in their communities.
Project R.E.S.T. relies on donations from the community to provide essential services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence. These services include free and confidential counseling, support groups, court advocacy, 24 hour crisis line, and emergency shelter.
Every donation, no matter how big or small, makes a difference. For example, a $25 donation can provide one day of food for shelter residents and their children, a $40 donation pays for 1 hour of therapy from a licensed clinician and $300 provides a family with 1 week of transitional housing and supportive services.
We’d like to share a hypothetical situation in which the survivor would be utilizing all of Project R.E.S.T.’s many services. Your donation impacts individuals like Sarah and their journey’s to a safer, happier life:
“Sarah was a victim of domestic violence for many years. Her husband was physically and emotionally abusive, and she was afraid to leave him. But one day, she decided that she had had enough. She packed her bags and her children and fled to Project R.E.S.T. for help.
Project R.E.S.T. provided Sarah with a safe place to stay and the support she needed to rebuild her life. Sarah’s victim advocate provided technical assistance in filing an order of protection to prevent further harm. She and her children received counseling to help them cope with the trauma of abuse, and she joined a support group to connect with other survivors. Project R.E.S.T. also helped her to get a job and find affordable housing through their transitional housing program.
Sarah’s husband filed for divorce and custody of their children. Sarah was terrified of what the future held, but she knew that she had to fight for her children. Project R.E.S.T. referred her to the local legal aid office for assistance and worked tirelessly to connect her with needed resources.
Today, Sarah is thriving. She is raising her children on her own, and she is finally living a life free from violence.”
